Travel - Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa - Edinburgh

My boyfriend took me away to Edinburgh this weekend, he booked tickets for Ben Howards concert at Usher Hall months ago, but only recently booked a hotel. Of course it's an expensive city, so he gambled and booked a secret hotel through HotWire

He had an idea based on the location as to which hotel it may be, but wasn't certain, and we were both pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Of course, the fact that Usher Hall was directly opposite was another nice surprise. However, the whole experience was amazing.

I actually work in a bar in a Double Tree Hilton so often have high expectations from hotels. We drove up, and got offered to have the car parked for us, and our bags transported to our room. A lovely touch which we passed up on, regrettably after struggling to park my boyfriends Nissan Juke into a small space with pillars around haha.

The room itself was beautiful. There was mood lighting around the ceiling, with a whole range of blues, reds and other colours. It was a really cool touch and we definitely had a fun time flicking through them each time we wanted a shower. "Hmm I'm feeling Blue today". There was all the general stuff, a good selection of TV channels, plenty of mirrors. However I definitely didn't enjoy the lack of Kettle and Tea/coffee facilities.

The hotel also holds the One Spa, an in-house Spa with a number of facilities. These included an indoor pool which we had access too, and a rooftop Hydrotherapy Pool for an extra fee. Unfortunately due to time restraints we didn't get to try these, but if I was visiting in summer I'd definitely be making a trip to the rooftop Pool!

While we didn't eat in the hotel, we did visit the bar for a drink. It was reasonably priced for a hotel and the area in which it was located. It also had a nice cocktail selection, I had a very well made Bramble, who knew Edinburgh was so big on Gin! They also are very quick to place complimentary crisps and nuts on your table, not great for me and my allergy, but a nice touch for other customers.

My favourite part about the hotel was the location. Usher Hall was directly opposite, there was an All Bar One next door and a Nando's across the road (in case you're not feeling adventurous). Edinburgh castle is visible up on the hill, and just a short walk down the road to the left is George Street (full of shops and just around the corner from the beautiful christmas market) and Queen's Street (with lots of lovely bars and bakery's nearby).
